Safety on the Sassybae App

At Sassybae, we are committed to providing busy parents with a safe and convenient way to give and get secondhand toys and kids' stuff. However, just like any other online platform, safety should always be a top priority when connecting with others. Here are some tips from our team to ensure your safety while using Sassybae:

Be selective about the information you share

It is important to keep sensitive information like your home address, phone number, and email private or until absolutely necessary.

Never share financial information or transfer money

Sassybae is a swapping and donation app, which means there should never be a need for you to transfer money or share your bank information. If someone asks for your financial information, report them immediately to our team.

Contactless exchanges

We recommend considering contactless exchanges for added convenience and safety. With this option, you can simply drop off your items on your swap partner's doorstep, ensuring a secure and hassle-free swapping experience.

Meet in a public place and/or with people close by

You may wish to meet in a public place to exchange your items. You can also look for a place with people around so you can seek their help if you feel uncomfortable or meet during daylight hours and take someone with you.

Some of Melbourne's north-east police stations have special 'safe zones' with good CCTV coverage, designed to reduce the risks of online marketplace exchanges. They are:

  • Eltham Police Station
  • Epping Police Station
  • Greensborough Police Station
  • Heidelberg Police Station
  • Mernda Police Station
  • Mill Park Police Station
  • Northcote Police Station
  • Preston Police Station
  • Reservoir Police Station

Do your detective work

Consider the risks of meeting someone they have never met before – checking social media or the internet to make sure they are who they say they are is something many people do, and a great way to find any red flags. If in doubt, a video or voice call is another useful way to make sure that the person you are talking to is genuine.

Keep someone posted

Always inform a family member, friend, or colleague about a person you are going to meet, where you plan to meet them, and what time you expect to be back. This will give you peace of mind and also ensure that someone else knows where you are in case of an emergency.

Use the block feature

If someone violates our community guidelines, use our block/report feature to bring it to our attention. All reports are kept completely anonymous, so the reported user will never know who flagged their account.

Report safety concerns

If you ever encounter a situation that raises safety concerns while using Sassybae, please don't hesitate to report it to us immediately. Your safety is our top priority, both within the app and during in-person exchanges. Select the "Profile" button and scrolling to "Contact Us" within the app or email us at any time.

Remember, safety comes first on Sassybae. By following these tips and exercising good judgment, you can help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for yourself and everyone in our community.
